 Federico Villarino

Federico Villarino (b. 1978, Buenos Aires) studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredón (now UNA) taking workshops with visual artists Esteban Alvarez (2009) and Fabián Burgos (2006-2007). His work revolves around the convergence of landscape painting and strict geometry: Two apparently distinct genres linked in different ways thus constituting scenes dominated by an unsteady calmness and certain mystery. This tension of opposites is the base of his work. The geometric drawings and corporeal shapes have their origin in his early training, in which technical drawing was a core focus. Winner of a First Prize at Faena Art Award in 2006, his work has since been shown in galleries throughout Argentina. 2013 he was invited to an art residency in Pouch Cove Foundation in Canada and this year he was participant of the residency program of Santa Rosa Factoria in Chile. Federico Villarino lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
